The Visual WebGui team is working on a new exciting feature, which is the ability to run Silverlight as Visual WebGui's presentation layer. What it actually means, is that developers using Visual WebGui framework, will have a choice or have both options, which are the DHTML presentation layer and the Silverlight presentation layer running side by side. It would be very easy to have users automatically routed to the supported presentation layer for their client station.
While running over Silverlight will bring an exciting new look and feel to your applications, it will not require any additional work from the developer. Unless he wants to customize the look and feel of the application, which will be done entirely through the use of Expression Blend.
Expression Blend which is Microsoft's designer tool for XAML world, will allow to totally change the look and feel of your Visual WebGui application, including the smallest UI bits such as scrollbars and list items. This will allow using the productive nature of Visual WebGui with out compromising on an exciting look and feel for your users.
We are working on releasing a running alpha version at the end of January which will include most of the controls included in Visual WebGui and we might even include the customization feature if possible, so developers will start utilizing the flexibility of such a solution.
Down the road we plan to provide full extensibility documentation and samples which will allow extending the UI with custom controls, more robust controls and features for enterprise applications such as Virtual Lists for displaying huge amount of records.
We are working close with Microsoft on our solution so we can maintain the highest amount of compatibility and to line up with their future releases of Silverlight. We are very excited about the combination of Visual WebGui and Silverlight and we believe that a new powerful and colorfull era is coming to web based enterprise solutions.
Stay tuned for further information and preview releases of the Silverlight presentation layer.
