Printing Crystal Reports
Modified By host on 11/20/2008 8:19:36 AM)
Hi,

I'm using the crystal reoprt viewer control created by Guy

CodeSnippet

I'm having problem in printing the report. The pint button points to a dialog which always exports the report in PDF. When I changed my default printer from Adobe PDF to some other it doesn't work. It shows page cannot be displayed error.

How do I print report directly instead of exporting it to PDF first?

Re: Printing Crystal Reports
Hello,

You have to print it from PDF as the page that displays the report is not in a suitable format to have that report printed from there. The correct format is generated in the form of PDF and thus from there you can have it printed out correctly.

Re: Printing Crystal Reports

Hi,

I'm unable to understand the idea behind printing the report through PDF. I create a windows application and show crystal report using the crystal report viewer; clicking the print button opens printer dialog. What if the client machine doesn't have adobe PDF? The report will never get printed I guess. Is there any workaround through which the report can be directed to the printer?

Re: Printing Crystal Reports
Hello,

I understand what you are saying, and you are right.
The thing is though that we wrapped the ASP.NET ReportViewer and are using it and not the MS WindowsForms one.
We can support only what the ASP.NET version supports as we use it as it is.
Please view this forum thread from "forums.asp.net' here.

Re: Printing Crystal Reports
Hi Ori,

Well after lot of back and forth I finally found a simple way to direct report to printer. You just have to call Report.PrintToPrinter and it works!

After doing this I tried Report.ExportToDisk() to export the report file in different formats. This one worked too!!

So I decided to make a toolbar of my own and hide the crystal report's toolbar. Now here comes the real pain.. Print and export works fine but when I use ReportViewer.ShowNextPage() or ShowPreviousPage() it doesn't refresh
Same page is shown in the viewer all the time. Also calling zoom function has no effect on screen.

Is this somewhere related to postback?
I'm close to my deadline now. Any workaround for this will be highly appreciated.
