I just scheduled the issue I believe that you are referring to, to VWG v6.2, which is the closest version that we will release that is not a stabilization version of earlier releases.
I set the status of this issue to "Research" which means that while working on v6.2 we will check what are the implications of this development and the amount of work required, and decide what to do accordingly.
This is only due to the fact that we will soon release an Office extension to the VWG framework, that resembles MS Office, that will use our own, in-house developed rich-text-editor, among many other widgets and tools. At that time we will stop maintenance of the FCKEditor and leave it to our community to keep using it and working on it as required.
Just to clarify things: This by no means says that we won't work on FCKEditor to fix the problem you referred to. If the resolution of this issue is as quick and simple as you stated in your post, we will almost certainly fix it in v6.2.
